Well if ever a year needed redesign!
This next year will be better than the last. We know, a very low bar to be sure. Despite that, in the spirit of controlling what we can control, let’s place our energy into “redesigning” this coming year by making our home that place we know far, far too well – a little more enjoyable.
For many folks, budgets and spending have been tight during the pandemic. For others, the absence of going anywhere or doing anything created positive cash flow. Regardless of your situation, we all like to save money and get more for less, so let’s take notice of what theresignhabit.com shares with us, introducing their favorite budget-friendly way to make your home feel fresher and more relaxing, so dear friends – paint. Painting, without a doubt, gives you the biggest bang for your redesign buck and makes an immediate positive impact!
Hot color palettes include whites (yes, shades of white can vary quite a bit), blues, and greens. Why these colors? The theory is that many of us are looking to create spaces that seem lighter and brighter with a feeling of calm and serenity. With these shades as your basic canvas, you can add color through accessories, area rugs, and fresh toss pillows. Stretch your redesign dollar by recovering existing pillows or simply ordering new pillow covers. Spray paint provides another color path. Refresh accessories from frames to vases with just a small investment. If you’re like us, you have favorite items with countless payers of paint that could reveal the history of your color moods throughout the years.
If you would like to paint your walls, neutral colors are a safe bet. Always have been. You’ll find beautiful soft, light colors (grays, whites, tans, taupe, and even some greens) to help your walls become the perfect backdrop to whatever other colors you choose for accents. As the seasons or your moods change, rework your accessories and reinvigorate your space with a whole new feel.
One additional tip we took from the pandemic: since we have spent so much time indoors, we have found it can lighten your spirits to bring some outdoors in. You can accomplish this by adding natural wood finishes, sisal, and plants to your space. A bit of your favorite beach, lake, or sunset spot can also help you achieve this goal.
Challenging times may linger. Please take care of yourself and your loved ones. As a believer in the positive impact that interior spaces can make in our lives, we encourage you to consider making changes to your living space. It’s a great way to break through the day-to-day sameness, and it can be a simple, affordable way to tap into your creativity and share it with others.
Now…what will you do next to love where you live?
